CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Clarksville woman out on bond for vehicular homicide and driving under the influence (DUI) charges has been arrested again for DUI.
According to a Clarksville police report, 43-year-old Larson D. Gafney struck a fire hydrant with her car Dec. 17 around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Golf Club Lane and Liberty Parkway.
An ambulance was called and the responding officer said he detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Gafney as she was loaded into the ambulance. The officer also smelled alcohol coming from the interior of Gafney’s vehicle, which had an expired temp tag in the rear window. No insurance was found in the vehicle or on her person.
Gafney was transported to Gateway Medical Center for treatment for her injuries.
The report says the officer later made contact with Gafney at the hospital, who still had “a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emitting from her person, red, watery eyes, and a very disorganized thought process.”
Gafney reportedly told the officer she had consumed three glasses of wine at a function prior to the crash. She initially did not consent to a blood test.
However, the officer checked her records and found the vehicular homicide/DUI charges from a July 2014 crash in which her passenger had been killed. He returned to the hospital and told her a blood test would be mandatory. Gafney said she would still not volunteer for a blood alcohol test.
She reportedly told the officer she did not remember driving from downtown to the scene of the crash, but remembered a white light and hitting her head. She then told the officer she had consumed one glass of a wine and a few sips of a second glass before deciding it was time to go home.
Gafney remained at the hospital and warrants were issued for her arrest on the charges of 2nd DUI, implied consent, no insurance, and no proof of registration.
She was arrested Dec. 29 and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on $20,000 bond.
