CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville police would like to warn the public about a scam that has recently been brought to their attention.
A resident said she received a call from Tri Star Marketing saying that she and her husband had made a large vacation purchase that had not been used or paid for yet.
The resident said she interrupted the caller to say that wasn’t possible, but the caller told her to wait while he “pulled up the record” because her husband might have purchased it as a surprise.
She asked the caller when the record was made, although she knew it was false. The man told her July 2013, to which she replied that her husband had died long before that. The caller hung up on her.
The number on her caller ID was (954) 541-3280.
The Clarksville Police Department wants to thank this resident for bringing the situation to their attention. Police believe these scammers may be targeting the elderly.
“A legitimate company employee will not get offended if you tell them you are going to hang up and call the company to verify the validity of the call,” Officer Natalie Hall said. “If they do get offended and pushy with you, then a ‘red flag’ should go up.”
