NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — An 11-year-old child has been charged with homicide after a shooting in North Nashville left a 15-year-old dead.

WSMV-TV reports DaVontae Ziegler died Friday at Vanderbilt Hospital after being shot outside his home that afternoon.

Witnesses told police that DaVontae was with two friends on the front porch at the time of the shooting.

The suspect, whom police have not publicly identified, is believed to be one of DaVontae’s friends.

Metro police spokesman Don Aaron told the station that the young man who fired the shot was very concerned about DaVontae and ran to check on him before running from the scene.

The boy was charged in Davidson County Juvenile Court.
