CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A 10th person has died from COVID-19 in Montgomery County, and we have two new hospitalizations.

The death was announced by Joey Smith, Montgomery County Health Department director. He is not able to provide information about the deceased, but he has previously said most of the local deaths are in “vulnerable populations.”

“A 10th death in Montgomery County is certainly a reminder that although we may not know someone who has COVID-19 or has ever tested positive, that there are folks that do test positive and some get hospitalized, and then some don’t recover at all,” Smith said Wednesday. “And so we can all join them in this fight and practice some good hygiene, wearing masks, trying to keep 6 feet distance. … We can all play a role here.”

As of Wednesday, July 29, there are now 896 active cases of COVID-19 reported locally, Smith said. That brings the total cases reported since March 6 to 1,524, with 618 recovered and 10 deaths.

The active cases have leveled off in the last several days, after a consistent upward curve in previous weeks that topped out at 913 on Sunday. That could be a hopeful sign, or it could be the result of increased delays in test results statewide.
