Fort Campbell, KY. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) It was a very cold Thursday night at Campbell Army Airfield, but you could still feel the warmth in the air from family and friends as 111 soldiers with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team “STRIKE”, were welcomed home in a ceremony at Fort Campbell.
The soldiers were returning after a nine-month deployment to Iraq and other areas in Southwest Asia. Task Force Strike supported training, equipping and advising Iraqi security forces and supported intelligence and logistics operations along with base security.
One soldier, Sergeant Christopher Schwierking, held his family close and talked about what it felt like to be home. “It feels awesome, I couldn’t be happier. I’m so excited, I’ve got my wife and my kids, I love it, words can’t describe it,” Schwierking said.
Then Schwierking’s wife Amena, shared her feelings about her husband being home. “It’s wonderful, we’ve waited a long time and I’m glad he’s finally home,” said Schwierking.
Another flight carrying 2nd Brigade soldiers is scheduled to return this Sunday and the remaining members of “STRIKE” will be coming home over the next few weeks.
