FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The 101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade held a color casing ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 1, to mark the start of a nine-month deployment to Kuwait as part of Operation Spartan Shield.

The colors were cased by the brigade commander, Col. Peter L. Gilbert and Command Sgt. Maj. Kevin K. Campbell.

More than 200 soldiers will deploy to the Central Command Theater to conduct command operations and provide intra-theater logistical support.

“Our soldiers are trained, and they are focused on the mission forward,” Gilbert said. “We have used the past 90 days or so to ensure that we’ve accomplished all the things that we needed to do prior to deployment. The Lifeliner soldiers will deploy, and we’ll conduct a wide range of missions unlike anything else we’ve seen before.”

Gilbert added a message for the citizens of Clarksville, and Hopkinsville and Oak Grove, Kentucky.

“We value our relationship, our strong partnership, over the last few decades, and at the end of the day it’s your support and community involvement in the activities here at Fort Campbell that allow us to focus on the mission, and if and when called upon, to deploy and fight our nation’s wars,” he said.

Prior to the casing ceremony, a change of responsibility ceremony was held for the 101st Special Troops Battalion “Steady Eagle.” The battalion said farewell to Command Sgt. Maj. Ronald C. Anderson Jr. and welcomed Command Sgt. Maj. Jason E. Enochs.
