FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell held a redeployment recognition event Thursday, June 11 for soldiers who recently returned from locations around the world.
The event took place on the division’s parade field at Fort Campbell and around 230 soldiers were recognized.
The soldiers were on the parade field and family and friends were in the stands.
The soldiers are assigned to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Rakkasans,” 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), headquartered at Fort Campbell. They previously deployed to multiple locations worldwide. The soldiers redeployed to Fort Campbell in multiple groups, and were recognized together.
The service members supported a number of missions for commands worldwide, including in the United States and the Africa Command.
Since their redeployment, they underwent a precautionary quarantine to ensure their safety and the safety of their families and the community.
Near the end of the ceremony Major General Brian Winski Commander of the 101st and Fort Campbell addressed the crowd.
“Families, I’m going to give you a universal military command, I think everybody is roughly lined up with your soldier and that command is, everybody on your feet,” Winski said. ” It’s the simplest of commands, it’s one word, you know what to do. Families, charge, go find your soldier.”
One of the soldiers, Captain Michael Rose said being home was amazing.
“It’s pretty awesome, just being back here with the family and seeing everyone. We were gone for almost seven months,” Rose said. “It’s been great to come home and see my little girl and the wife.”
Officials at Fort Campbell integrated social distancing and safety measures during the ceremony in accordance with best practices from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Department of Defense guidelines.
