Update, 11:35 a.m. Sunday: A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up by Jonathan Bell to help the family with funeral expenses. Information is at Help Cover Juland’s Funeral Expenses.
Update, 2:30 p.m.: Clarksville High School Principal Bryan Feldman sent an email to families on Saturday afternoon notifying them of Juland Lafortune’s death and assuring them of assistance from the school for grieving students.
“Juland’s untimely death is a shock to all of us,” Feldman said in the email. “As we grieve together, know that our focus is the emotional well-being of our school community. We will provide additional school counselors and support for days to come. Counselors will be available to any student, faculty, or staff member wishing to speak with someone for as long as they are needed.”
“We know that many of our students will have difficulty coping with this news. We ask that parents be vigilant to their child’s emotional needs during this time. We want to partner with parents to encourage students to talk to someone about the feelings they are experiencing as this is a very important part of the healing and coping process. School counselors will help as needed and can also provide community resources. If your child needs support, please encourage them to reach out to their school counselor.”
“As always, we appreciate all that our parents and guardians do for their son or daughter at home and for CHS. You are vital part of our school community and we need your support during this time,” Feldman said.
Update, 2 p.m.: Teachers and classmates from Jo Burns High School in Robertson County have been posting Facebook tributes and prayer requests today about the loss of Juland Lafortune, who had transferred from there to Clarksville High.

Update, 10:45 a.m.: Clarksville High Coach Isaac Shelby said Juland Lafortune, who was killed Friday night in a shooting, was a “super good kid.”
“He was really good to our younger guys, to our freshmen. He was always smiling and always had something nice to say.”
Juland died from his injuries after a shooting at Avondale Apartments. The shooting is under investigation.
“It just makes me sick,” Shelby said. “It’s going to be hard on our kids. All you can do is pray for him. He was an outstanding person, and he was raised well.”
The coach said Juland was a hard worker too.
“He came to me one time and said he was having trouble finding a part-time job. I called Kevin Newell at Burger King, and the next day he had a job.” Juland had been working there for about six months.
Juland, a transfer from Springfield, was a running back and corner back and had made the all-district team.

“He probably had the best run I’ve seen,” Shelby said, about a key play in CHS’s recent game versus Rockdale.
Funeral arrangement have not yet been announced.
