SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. – One person was killed after a semi-truck and car collided head-on early Wednesday morning in Springfield.

WKRN-TV reports the crash took place in the 6800 block of Highway 49 near Highway 25, approximately 30 miles north Nashville, around 5:30 a.m.

Authorities confirmed that one person inside the car was killed instantly.

A second person inside the car was flown via LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Their condition was not immediately known.

Neither of the victims’ identities have been released.

A preliminary investigation reveals the car crossed the center line of the roadway, possibly causing the accident.

Highway 49 is currently shut down to traffic. Officials expect it to remain closed for four to six hours.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating.
