CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Montgomery County Risk Management Department conducted an emergency fire drill Thursday morning at Veterans Plaza to check the efficiency of updated safety plans.

Elizabeth Black, Communications Director for Montgomery County Government, said the drill was intended to help officials gauge how employees reacted to emergency situations and what adjustments should be made. Other than a select few safety coordinators, the employees and the general public were not made aware of the drill prior to the event

All county agencies responded to the drill, including the Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department. Smoke bombs were deployed and sirens were activated to simulate a real emergency as the buildings were evacuated.

“We wanted it to be as realistic as possible to really invoke the true reaction of our employees to see whether we need to do more training or not,” Black said.

The county plans to conduct future safety drills at other locations in the area.
