CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Montgomery County Commissioners have voted to send a proposed 17 cent property tax rate increase back to the Commission’s Budget Committee.

Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett has proposed a 17 cent increase in the property tax rate. The tax rate now sits at $2.97 per $100 assessed property value and the increase would take it up to $3.14 per $100 assessed value.

The $3.14 figure is where the tax rate was before the county’s reappraisal. The Mayor is proposing the tax hike to help the county’s general reserve fund balance and keep county services at their present level.

More county commission budget meetings have been scheduled over the next week to try and work out funding for the 2015-16 fiscal year budget.
