Hopkinsville, KY. – Unified Business Technologies (UBT) has teamed up with Hopkinsville Community College (HCC) for a new aviation and drone program that will be part of an accredited degree producing program at HCC.
Wade Ayala, Director of Aviation Programs for UBT at the Hopkinsville-Christian County Airport, talked about the aviation program partnership and said It’s a licensing program so that a student can come in and when they graduate they’ll have an associate’s degree and be qualified to get a job as a commercial pilot.
Ayala added that they are also working on a maintainer’s course in which students, in a two year format, can get their certificates from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) which will help those retiring from the military to get a civilian job.
Also being developed is an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) program which allows students have the proper license as well as to design, maintain, operate and comply with FAA requirements for a UAV aircraft. UAV’s can have many uses such as agriculture, parcel delivery and the technology is rapidly growing.
Ayala talked about UBT’s timeline for the new aviation and drone program at Hopkinsville Community College. “Our current goal is to make it for August which will make it for fall 2015. We think we’re going to make that deadline. We’re very optimistic,” said Ayala.
