NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s Tennessee Chapter will host its annual Take Steps for Crohn’s & Colitis fundraising walk and celebration in Centennial Park on May 30.
Take Steps is the nation’s largest event dedicated to finding a cure for digestive diseases that strike 1.6 million Americans; over 30,000 in the state of Tennessee. Take Steps is a family-friendly walk and fundraising event, celebrating strides towards a future free from Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis – collectively known as Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis affect 1 in 200 people. They are painful, medically incurable diseases that attack the digestive system. Many patients require numerous hospitalizations and surgery. Most people develop the diseases between the ages of 15 and 35; however the incidence is increasing in children.
Participants of Take Steps are encouraged to form teams of friends, family members and co-workers to walk together and enjoy this meaningful event. Monies raised will continue to fund CCFA mission-critical research, support and educational programs for patients, as well as Camp Oasis, a summer camp for children battling IBD. Attendees will enjoy a one-mile walk through Centennial Park, entertainment, food, fundraising incentives and more. The event will also feature an action-packed Kid’s Zone, featuring activities, cotton candy & sno-cones. Julia McCarter, a 15-year old Tennessee resident battling Crohn’s disease will be present as well.
