HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – A child was bitten by a Hopkinsville Police K-9 officer Friday.

According to a release, the dog was taking a break in a field on the property of Millbrooke Elementary School when a child ran around the building and caught the attention of the K-9.

Police said the dog spontaneously bit the child, who was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The K-9 will be quarantined until an internal investigation is complete.
