Review by Pamela Holz, Realtor with Reliant Realty
Looking for a new lunch place to experience, I asked a friend if he had eaten at Potato Bowl. Not familiar with it, he wasn’t convinced he wanted just a baked potato for lunch. I decided to check it out, suspecting that there was more to it than just spuds.
Bright and open, Potato Bowl’s atmosphere was as welcoming as the immediate greeting of the gal behind the counter, who took the time to explain the menu and the options. And there were so many more options than just a baked potato!
There are eleven meals offered, from the ClarksVegas, a black bean turkey chili; the spicy chicken curry “Aussie;” and the Pizza Bowl, made with marinara sauce, pepperoni and fresh mozzarella—to the Chicano, Greek, Canuck, Buffalo, Philly, Thai, or Veggie. After picking your meal, you have a choice of chicken, steak, or shrimp. And then you decide on your “bowl.” Any one of the meals can be served on your choice of baked potato, sweet potato, hand-cut fries, spring mix salad, or Caesar salad.
I ordered the Buffalo- a sweet spicy sauce with blue cheese and celery (on the side) – with chicken on a baked potato. The meal was very large and very filling… I learned belatedly that I could have asked for the lunch portion (half of a potato for just $5), a tidbit I will file away for my next visit. The Buffalo sauce was quite spicy… I ended up ordering a side of the homemade ranch dressing and would definitely recommend getting the ranch for that classic combination of spicy and cool.
I was able to try the hand cut fries—“best in town!”—served with garlic parmesan Alfredo sauce. And upon request, I even got a little sampling of their Greek tzatziki sauce—fresh cucumber-creamy deliciousness! (They make all of their sauces from scratch.)
Potato Bowl is the only 100% Gluten free restaurant in TN. Monday is Military Appreciation Day, with all active duty and retired military receiving a 15% discount. Stop in on Tuesday evenings if you are a trivia fan, plus you can check out their Tuesday Trivia appetizers. Wednesdays, kids’ meals (normally $5.99) are half price all day.
So much more than just a baked potato, Potato Bowl is one of Clarksville’s non-chain restaurants worth giving a try!
