FORT CAMPBELL, KY – According to Variety Magazine, producers Richard Donner, Derek Hoffman, Bobby Sabelhaus and John Zaozirny are developing “Sons of Soldiers,” a dramatic film described as “centering on a high school football team at Fort Campbell and the impact of the players’ parents serving in the military.”

The movie will feature the story of former Fort Campbell High School head football coach Shawn Berner and the time he spent with the team.

Berner coached the Fort Campbell Falcons for 12 years before retiring in 2013. While coaching at FCHS he won over 100 games, with his 100th win in his tenth season. He also won three consecutive state championships, three region championships and eight district titles.

He was named the KY high school coach of the year in 2007 and was class 2A district coach of the year eight times. During his tenure at FCHS he helped over 50 student-athletes earn college scholarships to various universities, including University of KY, Notre Dame University, Western KY University, APSU and more.

Berner is originally from Ft. Myers, FL and graduated from Bishop Verot High School. He played football at Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN where he was named to the NAIA All-American Team his senior season, before receiving a degree in Political Science and History.

He went on to coach at Cumberland College and received his Master’s Degree in History, while serving as the offensive line coach for two seasons. He also spent several years teaching and coaching football at Pope High School in Marietta, GA before coming to Fort Campbell. He is married to Melissa Berner and they have two daughters, Haley and Madison.
