James was born June 22, 1930 in Montgomery County, TN, to the late Thomas Jefferson Fain and Martha Rye Christy Fain. He was also preceded in death by infant son, Raymond Patrick Fain; granddaughter, Tracy Fain Phillips; three brothers, T.B. Fain, William Fain, Lindsey Fain; and four sisters, Julia Groves, Eva Murphy, Mary Castleberry, and Ema Cunningham.
Mr. Fain was retired from TVA. He was a US Air Force Veteran and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #402 and the Scottish Rite. James was an avid Crappie fisherman.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 10, at the Chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael Raines and Rev. David Mackens officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, February 9, and from 8 a.m. until the hour of service on Tuesday, February 10 at the funeral home.
James is survived by his wife, Mary Evelyn Atkins Fain; three sons, Jimmy (Janet) Fain, Keith (Christine) Fain, and Terry (Candy) Fain; daughter, Penny (Donald) Luffman; one brother, Bud (Becky) Fain; one sister, Dorothy Dowdy; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mike Rose, David Fain, T.J. Fain, Roger Baggett, Dean Fain, Taylor Phillips, and Robert Harris.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 252 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
