Gordon E. Hawkins, age 80, of Clarksville, passed away Friday, January 9, 2015 at his home.

Gordon was born June 24, 1934, in Woodlawn, TN, to the late Royce Hawkins, Sr. and Eula Chester Hawkins. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Lauren Hawkins and two sisters, Frances Hawkins Smith and Kathryn Hawkins Sleigh.

Gordon was a well-known automotive dealer. He started his sales career in 1956 with Carney Motors. He then went to Jenkins & Wynne, and then opened Hawkins Auto Sales. He later formed a partnership with James Corlew. They had Hawkins-Corlew Chrysler-Plymouth, Music City Dodge in Nashville, and Hawkins-Corlew Chevrolet dealerships. Gordon retired for five years from Hawkins-Corlew Chevrolet, before opening Gordon Hawkins Ride America.

Gordon was a US Army veteran and a member of Hilldale United Methodist Church.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 12, at the Chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, with Rev. B.J. Brack and Bro. James Shepard officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, and from noon until the hour of service on Monday, January 12 at the funeral home.

Mr. Hawkins is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Winters Hawkins; son, Mark A. Hawkins of Clarksville; daughter, Mindy (Ted) Mosier of Springfield, TN; brother, Royce (Rita) Hawkins, Jr. of Clarksville; and grandson, John Odell Mosier.

Pallbearers will be Rex Hawkins, Rod Hawkins, David Shirley, Mike Malone, Mickey Keen, and Edmund Terrell. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Smith, Wade Smith, and Jimmy Smith.
