NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Dozens of customers at a Nashville community Kmart got a pleasant holiday surprise.
The manager of the Donelson store told WKRN-TV that about 70 people showed up at the store to find out their layaways were paid for by strangers.
Clare Halvorsen and her husband came to the store to pay off the remaining $150 balance on gifts for their grandchildren, only to discover that a woman she’d never met had already taken care of it.
The Halvorsens said the benevolence renewed their faith in humanity.
The Kmart manager said this is the third or fourth year this has happened at the store, but that this year people paid for about 30 percent more gifts than before.
