Hopkinsville, KY. – The City of Hopkinsville held a ribbon cutting Tuesday, September 16 for the new Hopkinsville Municipal Center at 715 South Virginia Street. The new facility was filled with both city and county officials and members of the community for the dedication ceremony.
The new center and the move downtown were approved by the Hopkinsville City Council and a groundbreaking was held in 2012. The center will house the City Administration, Community & Development Services, and the Hopkinsville Human Relations Commission.
The old Lackey Municipal Building at 101 N. Main Street was home for Hopkinsville city offices for 50 years after its dedication in 1964. After some upgrading and remodeling, the former Lackey Municipal Building will become a new public safety facility for the city.
Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp said the new center will stand as an anchor for downtown business and community life and is a symbol of the great future Hopkinsville has as a vibrant and progressive city.
