MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. – A fire was reported Friday around 4 p.m. at a home on Perigo Rd. in Cumberland Heights.
Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency Director Jerry Buchanan said the house was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on the scene and is considered a total loss.
Buchanan said no one was in the home at the time and no injuries have been reported.
The blaze is now under control and the cause has not yet been determined.
Janice Perigo lived in the house along with eight other family members, including her grandchildren who range in age from seven months to eight years. Perigo said that she had walked down the road to meet her grandchildren at their bus stop, and when she returned roughly a half an hour later, the house was “in flames.”
The house was over 50 years old.
Palmyra and Cunningham Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene, as well as the Red Cross.
A fund has been set up at U.S.Bank for Janice Perigo or Perigo house fire, for anyone who wishes to donate. The Red Cross has put the family in a motel, but their time is almost up and they still need a place to live, according to a family member.
