CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A woman was found unresponsive in her cell and died while in custody of the Montgomery County Jail on Tuesday.
Latonya Denise Daw, 56, had been in jail for about a month on charges of sexual battery following an arrest on Oct. 3, according to court records.
When contacted about a report of Daw’s death, MCSO spokesperson Lt. Bishop Delaney told Clarksville Now a female inmate was discovered unresponsive in her cell by a deputy Tuesday evening, and medical personnel were immediately notified. “Despite emergency response efforts, the inmate was pronounced deceased by EMS,” Delaney said.
Court records confirm that Daw died on Tuesday. No cause of death has been released.
“The circumstances surrounding this incident remain under active investigation,” Delaney said. “Out of respect for the investigative process, no additional information will be released at this time.”
Daw’s arrest warrant, obtained by Clarksville Now, states a Clarksville Police officer responded to a domestic call at a Cobb Meadow Lane residence on the day of the arrest. The warrant alleges Daw had grabbed the victim in two places. It further alleges Daw had pushed her hand against the left side of the victim’s neck and that an officer “observed slight redness on the left side of the victim’s neck.” According to court records, Daw’s case was bound over to the grand jury on Oct. 19 following a preliminary hearing.
