CLARKSVILLE, TN – Clarksville educator and children’s book author Dr. Jena Collins has released Jory and the World’s Largest Things, a children’s book combining real-world travel adventures with messages about autism, inclusion and emotional regulation.

Published Oct. 1, the story follows Jory, an autistic young girl who travels across the United States with the help of the wind, discovering unusual roadside attractions along the way. Through her adventures, Jory practices calming strategies and demonstrates that children experience the world in different ways.

The destinations featured in the book are real, including the World’s Largest Mailbox in Casey, Illinois, and the World’s Largest Teapot in Chester, West Virginia, giving families opportunities to visit the locations featured in the story.

Collins earned her doctorate from Austin Peay State University and has spent her career supporting students with disabilities. Her experience as a special education teacher and higher education professional helped inspire the book’s focus on representation and emotional regulation.

The book was illustrated by a Clarksville-based artist.

Since publication, Collins has been sharing Jory’s story with families, educators and community organizations through book signings and literacy outreach.

Collins is scheduled to participate in The Thirsty Goat’s Little Goats Reading Club on Nov. 19, where young children will have the opportunity to hear the story and participate in an activity inspired by Jory’s calming strategies.

Jory and the World’s Largest Things is available through book retailers.
