CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A man was found guilty this week of murdering his nephew in the parking lot of a Kraft Street store in November 2023.

Danyon Lydell Dowlen was found guilty of premeditated first-degree murder Thursday after a four-day jury trial, according to District Attorney General Robert Nash.

On Nov. 5, 2023, Clarksville Police responded to a shooting in the parking lot of the convenience store at 360 Kraft St. They found Antoine Gray inside an SUV dead from multiple gunshot wounds, according to previous Clarksville Now reports. Photos from the scene showed at least five bullet holes in the driver’s side door of the SUV.

Danyon Dowlen, Gray’s uncle, was charged with the crime, following an investigation led by Clarksville Police Detective Keenan Carlton.

Surveillance cameras showed Dowlen carrying a firearm with a drum magazine both before and after he fired multiple shots at Gray, Nash said. Eyewitnesses and forensic examination of Dowlen’s cell phone revealed his intent to kill his nephew prior to the shooting.

Dowlen, a repeat offender with state and federal convictions, was sentenced to life in prison immediately following the verdict, per Tennessee law, Nash said. The case was prosecuted by Chief Deputy District Attorney Marianne Bell and Assistant District Attorney Crystal Morgan, with the assistance of Victim Witness Coordinator Shelby Moss.
