CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers said goodbye to her staff, elected county officials and county employees at a reception held in her honor Monday, August 25 at the William O. Beach Civic Hall. Bowers will be leaving the county mayor’s office this week after her loss to Jim Durrett in the the Montgomery County General Election August 7.

State Representative Curtis Johnson presented Bowers with a proclamation from the Tennessee House of Representatives Monday along with a certificate of appreciation from Governor Bill Haslam. Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan praised Bowers for her desire and willingness to work together with the City of Clarksville and local officials to benefit the citizens of the county.

Bowers served as County Mayor for eight years and before her election to office she was Montgomery County Trustee. She was also a teacher in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System. “I’ve really enjoyed serving as Montgomery County Mayor,” said Bowers. She added that she was looking forward to the future because she said she hasn’t had much leisure time in her career.
