CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Support for educational opportunities is at the top of the list for the Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Foundation. Their mission is to support the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System by providing additional funding for initiatives that enhance student achievement in public education.

Education Foundation Executive Director Robin Burton said they are the nonprofit fundraising arm for the local public school system. “That gives us the flexibility to do various things with private dollars that doesn’t involve tax dollars,” Burton said.

Burton said the foundation is well established and has been around for 40 years. “We are able to offer many educational initiatives and are also able to fill in the gaps when unprecedented circumstances arise,” she said.

Teacher Warehouse provides supplies

The Education Foundation also sponsors the Clarksville-Montgomery County Teacher Warehouse.  The site began 11 years ago and is a free supply store available to licensed CMCSS teachers and to employees enrolled in the Teacher Residency Program.

Teachers are allowed four visits to the store throughout the school year. During each visit, teachers have points to shop for valuable donated items like basic school needs. The donated choices range from snacks to specialty art, STEM and SPED supplies.

The Education Foundation collects educational supplies for Teacher Warehouse through donation boxes set up in local businesses in the summer. Montgomery County and the City of Clarksville also hold an annual school supply collection competition with each other.

Coming up on July 23 and 24, The Q Morning Crew with Kyle & Tiffany will host the third annual Q-Up The Classroom Radiothon. You can be a Backpack Filler for a $50 donation to the CMC Education Foundation and Teacher Warehouse.

The Education Foundation features many community events throughout the year. There’s the Partners in Education (PIE) Breakfast. Dash to Benefit 5K, Blast to Benefit, Leadership CMCSS Program, Teacher of the Year, Academic Awards Banquet along with Pass & Go.
