CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Salvation Army received a donation of school supplies Friday, August 8 valued at close to $700. The supplies were collected by S.T.E.P.S. (School Tools that Empower and Promote Success).
S.T.E.P.S. was formed about 4 years ago by Alexis Mihalinec who is now 16 and a Junior at Rossview High School. Mihalinec said she saw on facebook that the Salvation Army needed school supplies and decided to donate some of those that had been collected to the organization.
Mihalinec said S.T.E.P.S. partners with local businesses and groups like Dollar General, Rent-A-Center, B.A. Wolfe Power Sports, Bombshells Salon & Spa and the Clarksville Running Club. S.T.E.P.S. also holds events to collect school supplies.
Captain Chris Coulson with the Salvation Army talked about how the supplies will be used. “These school supplies will not only go to children who are residents in our shelter, but children in the community who need help throughout the school year,” said Coulson.
