CUNNINGHAM, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) ā The Glencliff Colts traveled to Montgomery Central High School for Homecoming across the river and a matchup with the Indians on Friday. The game was close early, but the Indians made stops down the stretch and won 55-47 when both coaches decided to conclude the game with 2:00 remaining.
The Indians couldnāt get much going on the offensive end early, but thankfully, senior guard Noah Nicholson was on his game. Nicholson had 14 first-half points to pace Central, but the Indians only led by 2 at the half, 29-27, thanks to the efforts of Colts guard Victor Lawrence, who had 11 points at the halftime break.

The third quarter was more back and forth, but the Indians finally started to pull away late. Nicholson scored 11 in the third to continue to keep the offense afloat, draining six threes on the night to finish with 27 points. The defense was the story late, though, with Central getting enough stops to pull away for a comfortable lead and begin to stall for time. With two minutes remaining, Central killed time by holding the ball, and Glencliff refused to foul; both coaches decided to end the game.

āWe had a lot of distractions tonight, and didnāt play as well as we have been,ā said Indians head coach Sam Young. āFatigue set in after playing four games in five days, after not playing for 17, so we just wanted to get the game over with.ā
What’s next for Central?
While Central didnāt play their best on short rest, they locked up the No. 1 spot in District 11-3A for the regular season last night with a win over Battle Creek High School. Now itās about focusing on the postseason next week and trying to claim their first district title since 2001.
āItās important to get the win, but as we move on, we have to be able to put four quarters together,ā said Young. āYou donāt do that, you’re not going to be able to win games in late February, and thatās the goal we have as a program.ā
