CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A layer of frozen sleet and snow 3 inches thick is blanketing Clarksville, and with high temperatures staying below freezing for the week ahead, it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Monday night could be the worst of it: With a low of 0 degrees in Clarksville, and wind chills of -11, a flash freeze is possible. “With temperatures rapidly dropping below freezing tonight, any areas of partial melting/slush will refreeze quickly,” the National Weather Service said.

We are under a Cold Advisory Monday night and an Extreme Cold Warning Tuesday night. “Dangerous travel conditions and power outages will linger. Ice and snow refreezing will likely prolong hazardous travel and utility outages,” the NWS said.

But there’s more: Montgomery County can expect wind gusts today of 20-25 mph, adding strain to trees and powerlines weighed down by a layer of ice. “Additional power outages and downed trees are possible,” the NWS said.

Power outages in Clarksville over, for now
In Clarksville, customer power outages have dropped from 6,800 on Sunday morning to 0 today.
“We are officially back to full power thanks to the tireless dedication of our incredible employees and the extra hands who stepped up to support our community,” CDE Lightband said in a statement.
“While the lights are back on, we aren’t letting our guard down just yet. With extreme cold and winds still in the forecast, our crews remain on standby and ready to respond if anything changes. Thank you for your patience and support while we worked to get the lights back on!”

Outside the city limits, CEMC was down to about 460 members without power in Montgomery County. Outages are more widespread in the counties to the east of us, particularly Sumner County.
“As of this morning, more than 500 personnel are now involved in restoration efforts, including CEMC crews and contract lineworkers. In addition to our own linemen, over 200 contract crew members have arrived to assist, with additional crews expected later today,” CEMC said.

Road conditions improved in Clarksville
Road conditions have improved in Clarksville, but not much, and they remain hazardous, according to the Clarksville Police Department.
“Overnight, a small amount of additional snow fell,” according to CPD. “Most major roadways are more passable, though snow and ice mounds remain where plows pushed accumulation, and icing is still a concern due to low temperatures. Side streets remain problematic as plows have prioritized major roads. 4×4 and All Wheel Drive vehicles do much better, but ice is hazardous regardless of the type of vehicle you are in.
“If you don’t have to go out, please stay home,” CPD said.
