CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Northwest High School football went 1-9 last year in the first year under head coach Mark Hall, with their lone victory coming against Fort Campbell in week one. After graduating a class of about 25 seniors, the Vikings roster is now filled with youth, and Hall told Clarksville Now his student-athletes have shown signs of growing up fast this off-season.

“Our team is young with a lot of upcoming sophomores and juniors that played a lot last year,” Hall said. “These kids from day one of spring ball to now have shown a lot of progress, as people and as athletes. It’s been fun to watch them learn how we hold ourselves and the way we do things in this program, but we still have a lot of work to do.”

In year two, Hall said he plans on changing up some of his responsibilities as head coach. Hall, who was a defensive assistant for years, will run the Vikings’ offense this fall.

What to expect from Northwest High football

As far as what you should expect on the field from the Vikings, he said that you’ll see a team that attacks and gives 100% on every snap.

“We’re going to play hard in everything we do,” said Hall. “When you watch us on the field, you should see all the heart and effort these kids are putting in. That’s part of the culture change we’re trying to create here. We’re going to be a hard-nosed, sprint to the ball, get after type of team, and you should see some more wins develop on the field.”

Hall also said this year is all about building their brotherhood and growing together. “We talk a lot about the brotherhood the Vikings had back in older times,” he said. “They’d all come together from all different backgrounds to accomplish something. These kids come from all different types of households and families, but when they come here, they’re a family and a team, and we want to represent our school well.”
