MURFRESBORO, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Rossview Hawks traveled to Siegel High School for an elimination game versus the Independence Eagles on Thursday morning. The Hawks’ defense held strong, but the offense could only scratch one runner across the plate, and it wasn’t enough to defeat Independence. Rossview fell 3-1, ending their season.

Both teams struggled offensively throughout the contest, neither scoring more than one in an inning. The Eagles strung together a combined three runs in the first, second and fourth innings.

While the Hawks were rallying, a questionable out call at third base caused Hawks head coach Parker Holman to lay into the umpire, who then tossed Holman from the contest. Neither team scored after that, and Rossview’s season came to a close.

‘They’ve protected the standard and kept it’

“I thought it was a season that was led by a really good group of seniors,” said Holman. “This team was a bunch of tough kids who went on the road and beat the number one ranked team in a series, that’s no easy task. The balls didn’t bounce our way these last two days, but that’s baseball.

This senior class for Rossview has been fantastic leaders and made history for the program. They led the Hawks to their first state tournament since 2018 and have left a legacy to be proud of in the red and black.

“They’ve instilled toughness into this program,” said Holman. “They’ve protected the standard and kept it. These guys were made up of the right stuff, and these young guys that are coming back need to follow the example of what they’ve done. This offseason will be important for them, and when the lights aren’t on is what’s most important.”
