MURFREESBORO, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Rossview High softball team continued their state softball tournament journey on Wednesday afternoon when they took on the Walker Valley Mustangs in the winner’s bracket. The Hawks battled, but Walker Valley got runs when they needed to, and never trailed, with the Mustangs winning 6-3.
The Mustangs came out hot, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early advantage. Walker Valley added one another run in the bottom of the fourth on a questionable catch call, but Rossview responded in the top of the fifth, with Kennedy Scott and Addyson Waller both collecting RBIs.
“It was a good game with two good teams,” said Hawks head coach Travis Gillette. “Both pitchers were phenomenal, and Walker Valley moved the ball very well. It was a quick turnaround from this morning, and that got us a little bit, but it was a good job by our girls.”
The Mustangs added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away. Hawks third baseman Evon Dowlen scored a runner with an RBI single in the seventh, but the lead was too big to overcome, and Rossview fell to the losers’ bracket. Now, the Hawks will turn their attention to a 9 a.m. elimination game against Page High School.
“Elimination games seem to get these girls fired up even more,” said Gillette. “These girls are going to come out and give them their best punch tomorrow, and we’re going to have a good time.”
