Update, 1:35 p.m.: The NWS has started laying odds on snowfall amounts, and those odds include a 70% chance Clarksville will get over 3 inches of snow, and a 30% chance we’ll get over 5 inches. The probabilities will firm up the closer we get to Friday morning.

Snowfall is most likely to start in Clarksville at 7 a.m. Friday, but it could start as early as 4 a.m. or as late as 10 a.m., the NWS said. Roads will begin to become snow-covered and slippery Friday morning. By Friday afternoon, we’ll have major travel issues with slippery and snow-covered roads. Travel impacts will remain into Saturday.

Update, 10:10 a.m.: The Montgomery County Highway Department is preparing for snow and ice accumulation on the roads.

“There are only so many crews and a whole lot of roads to keep clear, so please be patient with their teams,” Montgomery County said in an announcement. “MCHD will clear the main thoroughfares first and then work on secondary roads and subdivisions.”

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – With up to 7 inches of snow now expected in Clarksville on Friday, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service.

“Total snow accumulations between 4 and 7 inches with locally higher amounts to 8 inches are possible,” the NWS said.

The Watch is in effect from Friday morning through late Friday night.

“Plan on slippery roads and difficult travel conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute,” the NWS said. “Continued cold weather will result in slow melting. Partial thawing and refreezing could keep travel conditions hazardous for several days, especially in rural areas.”

Warming shelter

Anyone needing a place to get warm can go to the Clarksville Area Urban Ministries warming shelter at the Madison Street UMC Gymnasium, 300 Commerce St. They are in need of help with volunteers and donations:
