CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Incumbent Congressman Mark Green won re-election in a race that had him running in Nashville for the second time, and against former Nashville Mayor Megan Barry.

Green told Clarksville Now he “was relieved” by the win. “This one was a harder race, and she chose to go negative right from the start. A lot of the negative stuff she was saying was not true. You have to worry about the impact of that, and we took it a little more seriously.”

Districtwide, Green had 191,832 votes to Barry’s 122,593.

When asked what separated him from his opponent, he said, “I think mostly ideology, but honestly I’ve been here and we worked to do historic things. We impeached the only sitting Cabinet secretary in the country. Last year, 30 bills were passed in Congress that got signed into law, one of them was mine. I am good at this job, and I think people saw that and appreciated that.”

As for priorities going forward, Green said, “Our big issue is more security, and No. 2 for me is cybersecurity.”

U.S. House District 7 covers the western portion of Middle Tennessee, spanning from the Kentucky state line to the Alabama state line. It includes Montgomery County and portions of Nashville/Davidson County and Williamson County.
