Update, 4 p.m.: Police have removed the body from the scene.
Update, 3 p.m.: Melinda Smith was working from her Timberline Way home at about 9 a.m. when she noticed outside her window her neighbor walking his dog. She then heard what she thought were fireworks, and thought it unusual to hear them that early. She then saw the man run and hide behind her car. “The look on his face, I could tell he was running for his life,” Smith told Clarksville Now.
That’s when she realized those weren’t fireworks but a burst of four or five gunshots. She called 911, and police arrived soon after. She saw an officer walking down the street with a gun and decided she needed to get away from the window. Smith heard the officer yell, “Put your weapon down.”
“I’m so proud of our police department; they responded so fast,” Smith said.
She later found out one person was killed and another critically injured in what police have said was a domestic-related shooting. It all happened at the house next door to hers.
Timberline Way is a very quiet neighborhood, she said. “This was very shocking.”
Update, 1:02 p.m.: The incident on Timberline Way is now a domestic-related death investigation.
When officers entered the residence, they located two victims with gunshot wounds. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was flown to Nashville by LifeFlight helicopter and is listed in critical condition.
Detectives with CPD’s Special Operations Homicide Unit and the Crime Scene Unit are processing the scene.
