CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Tennessee House Deputy Speaker Curtis Johnson of Clarksville was the guest speaker Tuesday at the weekly meeting of the Clarksville Kiwanis Club. Johnson announced late last year that he would not seek reelection when his term expires in 2024.
Along with around 60 local leaders and Kiwanians, Johnson was joined at the meeting at the William O. Beach Civic Hall by Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett, Tennessee State Treasurer David Lillard and Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury Jason Mumpower.

Both Hargett and Mumpower served along with Johnson at one point in the Tennessee General Assembly. All three spoke about the years they shared with Johnson in Nashville and his hard work for the state as well as the citizens of Clarksville and Montgomery County.
“I’m so fortunate that the people in Montgomery County, especially the people in District 68, had enough faith in me to send me to Nashville to support them the way they support me. It’s just been a real pleasure to be able to work for the people of Montgomery County and state of Tennessee,” Johnson said.

Johnson, a Republican, was first elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives in 2004. He served as speaker pro tem from 2013-2018, and as deputy speaker of the General Assembly since 2020.
