Mary H. Thomas, of Clarksville TN, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the age of 87.

Mary was born August 15, 1936, in Road Fork, Kentucky, to the late Payton Blewett and Lucy Belle Carr Blewett. Her brothers and sisters, whom she dearly loved, have all preceded her in death.

Mary is survived by her husband, James E. Thomas, Sr., sons, Jim (Tina) Thomas, and John (Daniela) Thomas, daughters, Cheryl (David) Nichols, and April (Chris) Smith. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Mary Barton Smith-Cody, Christin Nigbur, Christopher Smith, Laura Burney, Katlyn Thomas, Zoe Neuman, Austin Nichols, and Danielle Thomas, along with 15 great-grandchildren.

Mary grew up in Mayfield, Kentucky, where she was a featured twirler in high school. It was in Mayfield that she met James Eldon. They went on their first date on Valentine’s Day of 1952, and they were married for 68 years.

Mary was a teacher for Clarksville Montgomery County School District and a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a master gardener and loved tending to her roses. Mary will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a wonderful teacher.

A memorial service will be held at Neal Tarpley Parchman Funeral Home on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Greg Glover officiating. Visitation will be Friday, March 15, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM and Saturday, March 16, 2024, from 12:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Jay Thomas Hutchison, Rudy Alan Higgins, Austin Nichols, Justin Burney, David Blewett, and Matt Neuman. Honorary Pallbearers will be Christopher Smith and Phillip Nigbur.
