CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – With Kirkwood Elementary School set to open its doors for the 2024-25 school year, conversations about rezoning the school system to accommodate it are kicking off next week with informal virtual public meetings.
Though talks of rezoning to fit the elementary school have long been underway, CMCSS is unveiling their proposed plans to the community on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

With the recent openings of Kirkwood High School and Kirkwood Middle School, a large chunk of the rezoning effort has already been made to accommodate a large population of students.
According to CMCSS spokesman Anthony Johnson, CMCSS is working with RSP & Associates, a consulting firm with expertise in school system rezoning that assisted with the recent districtwide middle and high school rezoning.
“At these meetings, RSP & Associates will share the proposed rezoning plan with the community, discuss the rezoning process, and seek feedback on the proposal,” Johnson said.
During these virtual meetings, there will be chat options to provide feedback. Additionally, CMCSS will collect feedback throughout November and December on the plan via SurveyMonkey. The link to the feedback form will be online and will be communicated to stakeholders via ParentSquare and maps/QR codes placed at schools.
“The community will learn about the process and criteria RSP & Associates, CMCSS, and community leaders utilized to study and evaluate school zones and building capacities, and RSP & Associates will present the proposed rezoning plans,” Johnson said. “Maps and additional information will be provided online for stakeholders to review on their own. Additionally, the meetings will be recorded and placed online for stakeholders to view at their convenience.”
The dates of the virtual public meetings will be:
- Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m.
- Thursday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m.
- Monday, Nov. 27 at 6 p.m.
A formal public feedback session will be hosted on Jan. 2 with the location to be announced.
