CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Tennessee Wings of Liberty Museum, planned near the intersection of Fort Campbell Boulevard and Tiny Town Road, is on track for an opening in spring 2025.
Jon Hunter, chief operating officer for the Fort Campbell Historical Foundation, was the guest speaker at the Kiwanis Club of Clarksville Tuesday, and he shared an update on the vast new facility.
The museum will be on post, but with entrances from Fort Campbell Boulevard, it will be accessible from off post without the need to go through one of Fort Campbell’s gates.
With a current estimated cost of $50 million, it will feature 41,000 square feet of exhibit space with the campus covering a 33-acre site with both indoor and outdoor exhibits. Hunter described it as a world-class museum.
“We the foundation raise the money, we design, and we construct. Once it is finished, we give it to Fort Campbell, the installation. The installation will continue to provide services from that point forward, and the Army’s Center for Military History will actually operate the museum,” Hunter said.
The current Don F. Pratt Museum at 5702 Tennessee Ave. on Fort Campbell was opened in 1956 to celebrate and honor the history of the 101st. The Pratt Museum has been renovated but is only 10,000 square feet with many of their exbibit items not on display dispersed in storage.
Both the collection of artifacts at Pratt Museum and those in storage will be moved to the new Tennessee Wings of Liberty Museum, which will expand to include the actions of the 101st for the Global War on Terror.
The Fort Campbell Historical Foundation was established in 1992 with the objective to educate, honor and inspire the legacy and service of the 101st Airborne Division, as well as the 5th Special Forces Group and 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment stationed at Fort Campbell.
