Gary William Cole, DO, age 59, died unexpectedly June 1, 2023, at his home. Gary was born on October 8, 1963, to Burton and Helen Cole of Dexter, Maine.

Gary was a graduate of Dexter Regional High School in 1982. After high school, he joined the United States Navy and served his country as an air traffic controller. On June 5,1999 Gary graduated from the University of New England with his doctorate in osteopathic medicine. Gary had a smile and a chuckle that was reassuring and contagious, but more importantly he had hands that were always willing to help. He prided himself on taking care of people. Even during his own battle with illness, he still put the needs of others before his own often stating “I took an oath.” In 2008, he founded his own medical practice, The People’s Clinic, in Clarksville Tennessee. People mattered to him and he made sure they knew it with every appointment.
Gary loved the water and the outdoors and his beloved cat, Velcro. He enjoyed fishing and the peace that nature brought him. One of his favorite places to be was at his camp in Maine.

Gary is survived by his mother, Helen Cole, his sister and her husband, Sherry and Doug Cotta all of Dexter, ME. His brother and his wife, Randy and Tina Cole of WA. His nephew and niece, Douglas J Cotta (Angel) and Kari Storen-Fahey (Josh) both of Maine, great nieces and nephews.

He was loved by his loyal Staff and patients of The People’s Clinic, his “Tennessee Family”the Fleahman’s and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Burton Cole of Dexter and his grandparents all who he was very close to.

A private burial will be held in Maine at a later date.
