A Celebration of Life service for SGM Robert “Bob” Michael Murphy, ARMY (Ret), age 58, of Elkton, KY formerly of Clarksville, TN, will be Monday, May 15, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at Sykes Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. He will be laid to rest at Little Pine Church of the brethren in Sparta, NC.
SGM Robert “Bob” Michael Murphy, ARMY (Ret), was born in Ennice, North Carolina on July 11, 1964. He served in the US Army for 23 years and retired in 2006 from the 5th Special Forces Group.
After graduating from Austin Peay State University, he was employed as a math and science teacher at Sango Elementary School, where he also led the “running club.” He left teaching in 2021 to raise cattle and honeybees.
He was a beloved soldier, leader, teacher, mentor, farmer, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He had a great love for the outdoors and bluegrass music. Above all he will be remembered for his selfless commitment to helping friends and strangers alike.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Michelle; his sons, Thomas and Benjamin; and his sisters and brother, Glenda, Wanda, Carol and Glenn, Jr.
