Dr. Kay Laurette Sellers Griggs passed away May 1, 2023, after a long battle with breast cancer.  She was born July 28, 1938, in Dowagiac, Michigan, and graduated from Niles High School in 1956.  She married Rodney Duane Griggs in 1957.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, her parents, John Berwin Sellers and Mildred Louette Brewer Sellers, and her sister, Marilyn Jo Sellers Kolodziej, who are buried in Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles, Mi.

Kay studied French and Spanish earning her bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree from Western Michigan University.  She went on to earn her PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Michigan.

Kay enjoyed many creative endeavors including sewing, knitting, spinning, weaving, doll making, playing piano, ballet, and singing in the choir at her church in OH.

She enjoyed teaching French and Spanish for many years and retired from Lakewood High School in OH.

Kay is survived by her children, Steven John Griggs and Wendy Kaye Griggs (Raymond) Brash, Clarksville, TN and a stepdaughter, Mary Maurine Griggs of St Joseph, MI.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amy Katherine Davis (Cal McKay) and Christopher John (Ashley) Davis and great grandchildren, Aiden Thomas Dice and Julian Christopher Davis.
