CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – This Saturday, May 10 marks the 22nd anniversary of one of America’s great days of giving, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) “Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive”, according to Ray Maki, President of Branch 364 of the NALC.
Letter carriers in Clarksville-Montgomery County as well as across the nation will be collecting donations of food for local hunger relief organizations. They walk through the community every day, often coming face to face with the sad reality for too many, hunger.
Maki talked about the local groups the food will benefit. “The following food banks will receive the food that is picked up on Saturday, May 10, Loaves and Fishes, Urban Ministries, and Salvation Army. Clarksville has an average of 40,000 pounds of food donated each year during this food drive,” said Maki.
Maki added that the reason the food drive is being done in the spring is that there are many other food drives around the holiday season and as spring rolls around the food banks start to run short of supplies and that’s where the “Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive” comes in.
Being a part of this year’s Letter Carrier “Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive” is easy. Leave a non-perishable food donation in a bag by your mailbox this Saturday, May 10 and your letter carrier will do the rest. You can also drop off food donations before Saturday at Post Office’s in Clarksville-Montgomery County.
