Update, 1:45 p.m.: A 27-year-old man, Ronald J. Taylor, was killed in the wreck on Interstate 24 when his car went out of control and slid down an embankment.
Taylor was driving a 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia when he merged onto I-24 at Exit 8, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report.
For an unspecified reason, he went off the interstate into the median to the left, lost control and hit a 2018 Mazda 3 going in the same direction. He then crossed the interstate and hit a guard rail on the right side with the driver’s side of the vehicle. The car then went down an embankment, the report said.
Taylor died in the crash, the report said.
The Mazda hit the guard rail on the left shoulder and then came to a rest. That driver was not injured.
A third vehicle, a 2017 Acura TLX, was struck by debris.
Update, 9:40 a.m.: The roadway is back open.
Update, 9 a.m.: Traffic is backed up on I-24 from Exit 8 to Exit 1, the Exit 8 on-ramp remains closed, and I-24 eastbound is closed from Exit 8 to Exit 11.
One person was killed in the two-vehicle crash at the 8.4 mile marker, according to THP.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – At least one person has been killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 24 in Clarksville.
At about 6:17 a.m., the vehicles crashed near Exit 8 near mile marker 9, according to Clarksville Police spokesman Scott Beaubien.
Eastbound traffic was reduced to one lane, and the Exit 8 eastbound on-ramp to I-24 was shut down.
No further information has been released.
