CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The beginning of the 2022 football season begins this week and for teams such as West Creek, they are hungry for a chance to prove themselves early on.
The West Creek High football team is coming off a season where they finished with a record of 2-8. The Coyotes are in search of their second winning season in over a decade. That lone winning season came five years ago in 2017. During the 10 year timespan, they compiled a record of 20-80.
West Creek athletics hope their football program turns around under the direction of new head coach Robert Gallowitz. Gallowitz served as the Coyotes defensive coordinator before being promoted as head coach. He also spent additional time as an assistant coach with West Creek and Clarksville High.
“The most important part of this new position is being able to lead these kids moving forward, “said Gallowtiz. “Our program doesn’t have the greatest history when it comes to winning football games, so I want to bring a new perception to this team. I want to give the players some sense of excitement playing for West Creek football. I’d say that’s the biggest motivation I have as head coach.”
2022 season
West Creek’s coaching staff emphasized the importance of battling through adversity leading up to the new season of play. Gallowich recognized that when things didn’t go the team’s way last season, the group lost their moral as the game progressed. The head coach detailed one way the team worked on battling through adversity was by setting up competitive 7 on 7’s.
Throughout competitive play and practices this summer, Gallowich stated that West Creek’s identity is built around their athletes. This means playing to their athletes strengths and using them in space. The Coyotes have a wide variety of athletes that make up the team. This includes a number of players who play multiple sports.
The head coach pointed out that the offensive coaching staff is evaluating their players on a day-to-day basis to find the right pieces, so the team can move the ball and compete. As for their defensive coaching staff, they have prioritized making their system simple. This way players can focus on executing their assignment and playing fast.
The expectation Gallowich has for his team during the 2022 season is for them to truly compete. The head coach felt that too many games got away from their team last year. Gallowich wants the Coyotes to be in every game going into the fourth quarter. Then, build off their performances each week with the hope that it translates into wins.
West Creek hosts Northeast to begin the new (2022-23 football) season of play. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM on Friday, Saturday 19.
