CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Liberty Park pond was surrounded Saturday as close to 21o youngsters and their families took part in the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency annual Youth Fishing Rodeo. It was a free fishing day across the state for anyone wanting to fish without a license, and young people ages 15 and under were allowed to fish at Liberty Park, pulling in over 750 pounds of catfish.

TWRA Officer Montana Michelson said the number of youth fishing this year was double from the 2021 event, when only around 105 youth turned out. Michelson added that the Youth Fishing Rodeo has been going on for more than 20 years.

Prizes were given to the boy and girl who caught the biggest fish, and the most fish, and door prizes were awarded to the kids throughout the day.

Michelson thanked all of the sponsors for their support, as well as Clarksville Parks & Recreation and the Montgomery County Bass Club for their help.
