CLARKSVILLE, TN – In 2021, David Zeveney, then commander of American Legion Post 289, shared an idea to start a motorcycle enthusiasts riders program within Post 289.
The post had many longtime riders who also wanted an environment where Legion family members could come together to share a common love for motorcycles. They also wanted a way to help with support to the Post 289 Honor Guard with funeral escorts.
American Legion Riders Chapter 289 had three riders, Paul Pavlovich, Marc Mathes and Roy West, on the Tennessee Legacy ride, who on the first day completed over 1,200 combined miles and raised several thousand dollars for the children of fallen soldiers. On day two, Pavlovich and West along with new rider, Dave Zeveney, completed over 600 miles. The first Tennessee Legacy Ride was a huge success, raising over $10,000.
The American Legion Riders are a powerful and productive program of The American Legion. With chapters in all 50 states, the Legion Riders contribute time and energy to support the troops and their families and to promote the values of the Sons of The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and The American Legion.
At a regular meeting, Post 289 members passed a resolution for a new program to be known as the “Post 289 American Legion Riders.”
American Legion Riders meet monthly at the Post 289 Membership meetings. The riders participate in a multitude of community activities: hold monthly “Fun Runs” in the local area as well as an annual “Fun Run” out of the area. It is a family-friendly and service-orientated group.
Membership in the ALR is open to all Post 289 Legion, SAL, and Auxiliary members who are in good standing.
