CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – In a recent report by CBS News, the city of Clarksville was named one of the top ten most affordable U.S. cities to retire.

The report examined real estate markets, tax burdens, and cost of living, among other factors. Clarksville is ranked 48th in the nation for tax burdens, and the cost of living is 7 percent below the national average, according to the report. The median home value is $127,800.

There’s also no state taxes levied on Social Security, salaries, IRAs, or pension income.

The city has a high population of citizens over 65. Clarksville’s proximity to Fort Campbell also makes it a desirable option for military retirees.

Other cities on the list include: Pittsburgh, PA; Indianapolis, IN; Omaha, NE; Decatur, AL; Tulsa, OK; Tampa, FL; Corpus Christi/Rockport, TX; Alexandria, LA; and Aiken, SC.
