CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Girl Scout Troop 3272 in Clarksville has collected stuffed animals and coloring books for the Clarksville Police Department, donating the toys during their troop meeting on April 8th.
The toy collection was done as a part of the Troop’s Take Action Project, in which the girls had the goal of choosing an organization from within the community to help, carrying out the service project themselves.
The group of 2nd graders voted to give to CPD after Officer Lisa Reed spoke to them about her job. Officer Reed explained that she sometimes meets children that have been involved in incidents such as car wrecks and house fires, so the girls came up with the idea to collect items that could comfort kids during such difficult situations.
Christina Ploeckelman with Troop 3272 called the project a “good learning experience” that was completely “girl driven” without much assistance from adults.
Troop members made posters and public announcements asking for items. The community responded, and the girls collected boxes and bags full of stuffed animals, crayons and coloring books that CPD officers will keep in the trunks of their patrol vehicles to give to children during emergencies.
