CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Montgomery Central High School commemorated their baseball field in honor of two individuals, Landon and Joyce Dunn, for their commitment to the sports of baseball and softball. The official name is now the Landon and Joyce Dunn Memorial Baseball Field.

The program for the ceremony detailed that the Dunns “had a profound effect on their family, their players, the school and the community. Both instilled the importance of education, the love of athletics, and the importance of giving back to the community and to their children.”

Landon Dunn graduated from MCHS and was a student-athlete for the school. According to MCHS, Landon remained involved in Montgomery Central sports throughout his adult life. He was head coach to numerous District 9 championship teams. In addition, Landon coached a group of 16- to 18-year-old boys to a state championship in 1984. Four years later, he returned to the state championship, but this time with a group of 16- to 18-year-old girls in softball. He served in additional leadership positions within the PTA, MCHS Booster Club and Montgomery Central Little League.

Joyce Dunn served in a variety of roles to support her children and the community. This included time at PTA events and working with the Montgomery County Little League. She even volunteered in the school nurse’s office at one point. Joyce spent time coaching softball as well. And if she wasn’t coaching, she was watching from the bleachers or working the concession stands.
